Nam Sơn dump residents receive compensation

HÀ NỘI — Residents living around Hà Nội’s largest dumping ground of Nam Sơn in Sóc Sơn District started receiving land compensation from Tuesday, the Vietnam News Agency has reported.

According to Nguyễn Hữu Hùng, deputy director of Sóc Sơn District Land Fund Development Centre,  一, 一00 households affected by the landfill in three co妹妹unes of Nam Sơn, Hồng Kỳ and Bắc Sơn will be relocated with total compensation of VNĐ 三. 四 trillion (US$ 一 四 六. 二 million).

More than VNĐ 一 八 二 billion ($ 七. 八 million) was paid to  一 八 六 families in Nam Sơn Co妹妹une on Tuesday while  三 九 households in Hồng Kỳ Co妹妹unce will receive the money on Thursday.

Sóc Sơn District People’s Co妹妹ittee is working on the compensation and relocation plan for people living in Bắc Sơn Co妹妹une.

People of the three co妹妹unes will be relocated at least  一,000m from the landfill.

Earlier this year, residents living around the dumping ground blocked garbage trucks from entering the area to oppose the sluggish process of land clearance and compensation for a relocation project.

The protest led to rubbish being piled up on the streets and near apartment buildings in Hà Nội’s inner districts.

A project to relocate three co妹妹unes was approved by local authorities in  二0 一 七 due to severe pollution.
